Life is short. Why not use tech to spend less time on it? Here are my top 5 favorite tools that help me save brain power while accomplishing more (without sacrificing quality).
- GRAMMARLY PREMIUM
Owning a business feels like I’m essentially getting paid to send emails all day, ammiright? Yet, that is not how I want to spend the majority of my time. Knowing how much my business relies on me creating content and communicating via email, I happily pay for the Grammarly Premium subscription. It saves me not only the time it takes to write a well-crafted piece of content but also the time it takes to edit each piece. Gone are the days of reading (and re-reading) each email for potential typos.
- CHAT GPT
We discuss the merits and setbacks of AI in another article, but a tech biz hack list would not be complete without mentioning this chatbot / virtual assistant. What I love most about Chat GPT is its ability to create custom GPTs that you can train to create a powerful duplicate of your sales team. - FLODESK
There are many, many email services out there and I’ve worked with most of them. To me, Flodesk is the Apple product of email service providers. It offers an aesthetic and intuitive product that cuts the hassle and overwhelm of building high-converting email flows, lead pages, newsletter sign-up blocks, and more. Here’s the deal: agencies (especially bro marketers… you know, the ones) will be quick to sell you on some super beefy software like Salesforce, Hubspot, or Klaviyo. I’ve used all of them, and I can leverage them in your business if that’s what you already have set up, but if I were to build a business from scratch, I’d pick Flodesk over the others every day of the week. Remember Occam’s Razor principle? The simplest, most elegant explanation is usually closest to the truth. In this case, Flodesk is the simplest, most elegant solution I’ve found on the market.
- SPEECHIFY
If you love to read but also prefer to read on the go (or have ADHD and quite literally can only read if doing so while simultaneously tackling other tasks. Welcome! You’ve found your people.), then Speechify will become your new best friend. This app can turn any document, URL, or even photos of physical pages into an audiobook format. You can even pick from several voices, including those of celebrities, to read to you. This saves me hours each week (the app tracks your time saved, too!) by reading everything from business books to my client’s websites to instruction manuals and everything in between. P.S. If you want to see if your website sounds helpful and persuasive, drop your URL into Speechify and hear it spoken out loud to you. It’ll show you your copywriting from an entirely new perspective.
- CAPTIONS
If you’re creating video content regularly, I cannot recommend this app enough. Not only does Captions auto-generate incredibly accurate captions, but it will also remove long pauses and filler words from your video with the touch of a button. Other time-saving features include auto-zoom, video stabilization, and eye contact correction (super helpful if you’re ever reading off a script or notes; this will make it look like you’re still making eye contact with the camera). I used to avoid batching video content because the thought of editing several videos at once felt overwhelming. Captions truly are an executive function bandwidth saver. If you know, you know – We have to do everything we can to protect that for working on our business, not working in it.
There you have it! While the reality is that I use at least 20 different technologies in my business and personal life every day, these are the five that I find save me the most time per week while increasing efficiency (and preserving quality).
